Bio of Gustav Csik

Hungarian Jewel and International Jazz Icon Gustav Csik was born in Eger, Hungary into a musical family.  A classically trained pianist with over six decades in the music business, Csik began playing professionally and getting paid as a musician by age 16. Jazz music was not always an accepted music genre in Europe. As a young artist, Csik secretly listened to Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald and several others from the radio show "The Voice of America" with DJ Willis Conover, which inspired his musical career to date.

Csik has worked and performed with many musicians and jazz icons throughout his musical career, including former bassist of Duke Ellington's Big Band Jimmy Woode. Woode introduced him to many musicians that he later collaborated and recorded with, including Kenny Clarke, Johnny Griffin, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie (Lockjaw) Davis, Ed Thigpen, Bobby Durham, Alvin Queen, and more.

Because of Csik's talent and repertoire, he was hired to perform in various prestigious Five Star Hotels in Switzerland as the head Master pianist, including 19 years at The Palace Hotel in Gstaad, Switzerland and 26 years foat the Hotel Victoria Jungfrau in Interlaken, Switzerland.

Additionally, Gustav Csik is an accomplished composer, including two signature compositions "Doll Serenade," and "We Are Here."  His book "Gustav Csik Compositions," which was published in 2023 includes 18 of his original compositions, many of which have been recorded on LPS, CDS, DVDs and can be seen on You-Tube

Highlighted accomplishments are as follows:  EMeR Ton Prize, US Proclamation Award from the State of Tennessee 2003, Louis Armstrong Award 2011, Gabor Szabor Award 2015, Franz Liszt Prize 2016, and a Hungarian television documentary about his life that was produced in 2019.

He is the musical director for The Three Ladies of Blues Show, and singer Joan Faulkner Show.
